Manos de Mujer

Fudge, Toffee, Plum

Harvested ( May 23)

Guatemala Manos de Mujer comes from the ACODIHUE cooperative in the mountainous territory of Cuchumatan, Huehuetenango. The cooperative was founded in 1996 after several development projects were completed in the area by the European Union. This coffee is produced entirely by women members of ACODIHUE’s network of women growers, which is referred to locally as Awal Nan (Siembra de Mujer) in their native Mam language.

Impact: Eighty percent of ACODIHUE’s coffee is grown and produced by indigenous women in the mountainous territory of Cuchumatan, Huehuetenango. This high number of women producers is the result of widowing and men migrating into the United States, leaving the women behind to take care of the kids and their land. ACODIHUE certified the women producers as Manos de Mujer (Women’s Hands) to recognize the hard work of these women and their contribution to both their households and to the national economy.

Flavor Profile:

The Guatemala Manos de Mujer is consistently an all around crowd-pleaser and one that works well across all brew methods and roast styles. This year's lot has nuanced fruit and chocolate notes, a syrupy body, balanced acidity and lasting sweetness. Light roasts styles typically produce notes of caramel, tart cherry, vanilla and milk chocolate, while darker roasts exhibit toasted marshmallow, molasses, and cacao nib.
